I’m sick of being a babysitter at work

We have had new civil servents for the past couple of weeks and even tough they are nice boys in general, I sometimes feel like being their babysitter. They work but then they tend to get bored really quickly, and then unfocused to anything. If I suggest something I very often get a reply “I’ll do it later” or “I don’t want to” implying that the task I suggested sounds boring. The thing is tough, that I’m not suggesting them the boring things I wouldn’t want to do. I’m suggesting the tasks I know someone shoud get onto but I can’t myself right then and there. They are pretty much always tasks that are essencial for making the service good for our customers, and that’s basically why we are there for. Not to attend to our facebook profiles and doing just the things that sound interesting and fun.

These are the things where you can tell that they are actually rather young (about 19) and that they come from good families. They aren’t used to worklife. So I find that often I need to go and tell them to do things and I feel like I shoud tell them that they should do the boring bits too. But I just really don’t want to. It eats extra energy that I don’t have to give so I’m even more tired.

But maybe they’ll learn. At some point.
